Pompeii
I love ancient artifacts and archaeology. This year the Pompeii exhibition is on loan from Italy at the Pacific Science Center. I couldn't miss it. The tickets were a bit pricey, but overall it was extremely enjoyable. Moving through the exhibit it had Greek and Roman art, showed periods that were influenced by Ancient Egypt, and the general lifestyle of the people of Pompeii. As you moved through the exhibit it eventually talks about brothels and finally moves into discussing and showing Mount Vesuvius and the destruction that it bear with the 79 AD eruption. There were plaster casts of human bodies as well as photographs of where the remains had been. So much ash and volcanic matter had settled and hardened that it left hollow areas as the bodies decayed, which plaster was able to be inserted into the air pockets. It was very enlightening. The exhibit ended with a display about volcanoes in Washington: Mount Saint Helens, Mount Rainier, Mount Baker, Mount Adams, among others, since Washington is a volcanic hots-spot and the volcanoes do present a real danger.
