Biker Jacket, Stripes, and Metallic.

Today my daughter and I went to lunch with my brother to a Chinese buffet. The places food was decent and the decor was super pretty, but they were insanely packed and the service was subpar-you get your own food, but they are supposed to serve your drinks. Towards the end of our meal I flagged down one of the wait staff to refill our drinks, so the guy takes mine and my brothers glasses and refills them, but filled up our glasses with the opposite kind of pop.  We both ended up with this nasty Coke/Dr. Pepper mix-BLAH!, which I had to then get up again and get the guy to dump it out and give me the right thing. Uggg, ridiculousness I tell yeah.

Just to show off the top of the shirt, and the cute panda stained glass windows. :)

I severely need to shorten these pants, they're way too long; but I'm lazy and keep putting it off.

On a side note, I'm thinking of changing my comments section to Disqus. Your thoughts? Recommendations, and pros/cons from those who use it would be appreciated.

Sheerly Pink

It's Marvelous Monday again. Today's theme was sheer tops, and fortunately today we had awesome weather. I normally wear some sort of tank or cami under sheer tops, but I decided not to today. I'm not sure if it's super obviously, hopefully not too much.

Sheer Shirt: LYS. Glasses: Target. Shoes: Kmart. Jeans: Torrid. Bag: MMS. Belt: Walmart. Necklace and Earrings: Icing.

So remember: Our Philosophy for Marvelous Monday: Monday is nobody's favorite day of the week, but maybe its terrible reputation is a little undeserved. Birthday OutfitS

These pictures are from my birthday celebration. I went out with some friends, first we had dinner and then went to a club for drinks and dancing. I did change my clothes after dinner. I really wanted to wear my new pink shoes, but was not trying to wear them to the club. Similarly, the dress I wanted to wear with the pink shoes is WAY to heavy, just not a clubbing type, so after dinner I did a quick switch. Both the dresses have been featured on the blog before here and here

Shoes and Dress: Torrid. Lace Top Tee: Walmart.

Dress: Torrid. Shoes: Fashion Bug.

The last two pictures, man, I don't even know what to say about those; not the best, but the only two full outfit ones from the club.

Anyways, just wanted to get this post up before I forgot. In about two hours I'm headed to the vet to get my little rascal featured above, neutered.

Tribal

This is from Saturday when I brought my daughter to her dance class. The first two pictures are from before we left, and the last two are after we got home. I decided to roll the jeans up, because let's face it, these are definitely statement shoes that NEED to be shown off to full capacity. Having the jeans pulled over the tops of them was just not doing the shoes any justice!

Necklace and Tortoise Bracelet: Fashion Bug. Gold Bracelet: Walmart. Shoes and Glasses: Target. Jeans: Torrid. Black Tank: Old Navy. Button Up Shirt: Kmart. Belt: Sears.

These shoes look like they are digging into my foot, I assure you they are not. They are actually quite loose, but the strap hits my little toe in an odd spot.

Art Inspired Marvelous Monday

Happy Monday y'all! It's marvelous Monday again, but I got a little confession, I kind of cheated and did my outfit yesterday. It was my birthday, and I knew that I was going to need some recovery time after the weekend, so I made it an appoint to do the outfit last night at dinner.

Our Philosophy for Marvelous Monday: Monday is nobody's favorite day of the week, but maybe its terrible reputation is a little undeserved. We're on a mission to make ours (and hopefully yours) a little less awful by dressing marvelously! Be sure to check out the other blogs, links will be provided at the bottom.

Today's challenge is to be inspired by art. I don't know that there is anything particularly arty about the dress, by my purse is definitely art. It is a replica of Botticelli's Birth of Venus painting.  I've always loved Renaissance art, and specifically this painting; so about 10 years ago when I was attending the the Shakespeare Festival in Oregon and saw this purse I had to have it. My purse is now beat up, faded, and slightly stained, but I don't think I could ever get rid of this one. The last art inspired piece is the shoes because they remind me of a Monet floral painting, although a little more abstract.

Dress: Lane Bryant. Shoes: Guppy Love by Blowfish. Purse: Purchased in Ashland Oregon at boutique, unsure of designer or name of store. Necklace: Fashion Bug.

Selfies and Tie Shirts

Nothing quite like selfies in the fitting room. :) I got this tie shirt at Lane Bryant maybe about a month ago during one of the flash sales so I ended up paying around $20 for it; still available. I'm loving the bright colors, it's also sheer, therefore super light weight. Torrid is currently carrying a few different styles of the tie-waist shirts, they can be found here, here, and here.  Which brings me to my next point of conversation: Torrid's Facebook comments about this style of shirt. I'm not sure why I ever bother reading the comment sections since most of the time they just irritate me, but there was definitely some negativity about this style, specifically on fat women. Torrid featured the tie-waist shirts and asked consumers if they love them or need to leave them. Here are a couple of my "favorite" comments regarding this issue:

"Leave, especially since some big girls tend to wear clothes wrong."
"Love it on girls without bellies, which is almost none of us."
"Cute on models...not so much on real plus size girls who have bellies and side fat."
"They're cute...but you know you're going to get that one girl who thinks they can tie it under their bakers dozen and just ruin it."

Yes, Torrid did ask for people's opinions on this style of shirt, but some people take it way too seriously. First, if you don't like it, then don't buy it. This is just another example of people trying to push their own insecurities off on others. Secondly, Torrid carries HUNDREDS of shirts, there is probably currently approximately 300 shirts in Torrid's fashion top section, that's not counting the clearance, so out off ALL of these they offer, three shirts in a tie-waist variation and that's a problem? Not sure why. Leading back to the first point. Do I always feel 100% great about my body? No. Am I always super confident? No, confidence does tend to waver at times. However, I am not going to let this and other's opinion on what I as a fat woman should and shouldn't wear affect what I wear. The tie-waist top may not be the most flattering piece I've worn, but I still rocked.

And just as a digression, I keep telling myself that I'm not going to buy anymore patterned/printed items because I have a ton. From now on it's going to be solid colors and more neutrals. Yeah, that's not working so well for me-the last 3 items I've purchased are not members of my new fashion resolutions. Ooo, and tomorrow is my birthday! Super excited, I'm going out with friends tonight and tomorrow will be spent with my family. Hopefully I can remember to get some outfit pictures in.

Breaking the rules: brown and black

Today is Marvelous Monday! But in all honesty I actually forgot until a couple of hours ago. I didn't do anything today except make a trip to Walmart; hence the very limited makeup of only mascara and the super casual outfit. Today's theme was breaking the rules. Had I remembered earlier, I probably would of come up with a more controversial outfit- oh well though, this is what you get! Brown and black, I never really have understood why people say not to put them together, or black and navy for that matter, I rather like 'em. I guess you could add another rule breaker in there too, the skull on the shirt is leopard print and I have seriously heard people come up with things like fat women shouldn't wear animal print, or that animal print is trashy looking-all I can say is fuck them.

I have done a couple of other posts about "the rules" that can be viewed here and here

I thought about adding a brown jacket, but it was a little warm so I didn't feel like dealing with it.

Laid Back

A friend and I went to another poetry reading at the university. This time we seen Jared Paul, once again an interesting show. The pictures below were taken after the performance and unfortunately my flash wasn't quite strong enough in the darkness. This type of outfit is nothing super special, but it's easy and cute so it becomes a sort of wardrobe staple-especially when you're short on time and need to be out the door 10 minutes ago.

Shirt: Lane Bryant. Blazer: Torrid. Jeans: Target. Shoes: Glo Jeans. Bag: Kathy Van Zeeland. Necklace: Target.

Me and one of my besties on our way to see the Jared Paul performance.

Mismatched

Over the weekend I went to a Passion Party with one of my friends, and no I did not buy anything. Anyways this is what I wore. I've been really liking the floral blazer look lately, but hadn't got around to purchasing any. I almost bought one a couple of months ago from Torrid that was a navy blue with flowers, but just couldn't bring myself to pay that much for one since I'm sure it will not get a huge amount of use. I ended up seeing this one at JC Penny, it's light weight and shorter sleeved so it will be good for the spring and summer. I originally planned to wear this completely different, but it was pouring down rain so I decided to dress down. Definitely be prepared to see it again.

Shirt: LYS. Jacket: JC Penny. Necklace: Target, but bought at the Goodwill brand new. Watch: gifted. Pink Bracelet: House of Key. Purple Bracelet: Walmart. Bag: Kathy Van Zeeland.

On the Maxi

Today's edition of Marvelous Mondays brings you the maxi; this could either be a maxi dress like I chose or a skirt.

Our philosophy: Monday is nobody's favorite day of the week, but maybe its terrible reputation is a little undeserved. We're on a mission to make ours (and hopefully yours) a little less awful by dressing Marvelously!

Today's look is very basic, the usual maxi type of styling, the dress is new though; I really liked the design and color. I like maxi dresses just because they are so easy, you can instantly look dressed up with very little effort or thought put into it.

Dress: Faded Glory. Cardigan: Mossimo. Sandals: LEI.  Necklace: gifted from a friend, she bought it in Mexico. Belt: Lane Bryant.

Be sure to check out the other blogs on the MAXI.

Leather, Houndstooth, and Carlos Andres Gomez

Last night I went to see a poetry reading of Carlos Andres Gomez, and I gotta say it was pretty amazing. If you have never heard of him you can check out his bio and work here. This was in partial celebration of Martin Luther King Jr since his death was on April 4 as well as a promotion of Carlos' new book. I will definitely be purchasing his book eventually, unfortunately he sold all his books the day before so there weren't any available at the event. Definitely check him out, and if you get the chance to see him live, I'd go for it.

Coat: A.N.A. Lace Tank: LYS. Under-tank: JMS. Leggings: Fashion Bug. Shoes: Kmart.

This is at the college I did my undergraduate degree at, I thought it was so cute that they planted tulips in the school colors.

How awesome is this jacket? I got it at JC Penny  for about $20 and I am so in love with it.

Leopard Jumpsuit

Welcome back to Marvelous Monday. Our philosophy: Monday is nobody's favorite day of the week, but maybe its terrible reputation is a little undeserved. We're on a mission to make ours (and hopefully yours) a little less awful by dressing Marvelously!

This weeks theme is something that you have trouble styling.

I chose this leopard jumpsuit. Now this isn't something that I have trouble styling, as much as I have trouble WEARING. I bought this as an impulse buy at Ross one day; I was up at checkout with everything else I had already tried on and seen this hanging on a rack in my size so I snatched it up real quick. This was without really thinking "is this something I will actually wear." I have worn it a lot, but only at home, not quite brave enough to wear in public. This is how I decided it would be acceptable for an outing though:

Shirt: LYS. Shoes: Privileged. Jumpsuit: Ross. Necklace: Hustler Hollywood.

I can't believe I'm posting this, but this is what it looks like without anything over it.
