Nothing quite like selfies in the fitting room. :) I got this tie shirt at Lane Bryant maybe about a month ago during one of the flash sales so I ended up paying around $20 for it;
still available. I'm loving the bright colors, it's also sheer, therefore super light weight. Torrid is currently carrying a few different styles of the tie-waist shirts, they can be found
here,
here, and
here. Which brings me to my next point of conversation: Torrid's Facebook comments about this style of shirt. I'm not sure why I ever bother reading the comment sections since most of the time they just irritate me, but there was definitely some negativity about this style, specifically on fat women. Torrid featured the tie-waist shirts and asked consumers if they love them or need to leave them. Here are a couple of my "favorite" comments regarding this issue:
"Leave, especially since some big girls tend to wear clothes wrong."
"Love it on girls without bellies, which is almost none of us."
"Cute on models...not so much on real plus size girls who have bellies and side fat."
"They're cute...but you know you're going to get that one girl who thinks they can tie it under their bakers dozen and just ruin it."
Yes, Torrid did ask for people's opinions on this style of shirt, but some people take it way too seriously. First, if you don't like it, then don't buy it. This is just another example of people trying to push their own insecurities off on others. Secondly, Torrid carries HUNDREDS of shirts, there is probably currently approximately 300 shirts in Torrid's fashion top section, that's not counting the clearance, so out off ALL of these they offer, three shirts in a tie-waist variation and that's a problem? Not sure why. Leading back to the first point. Do I always feel 100% great about my body? No. Am I always super confident? No, confidence does tend to waver at times. However, I am not going to let this and other's opinion on what I as a fat woman should and shouldn't wear affect what I wear. The tie-waist top may not be the most flattering piece I've worn, but I still rocked.
And just as a digression, I keep telling myself that I'm not going to buy anymore patterned/printed items because I have a ton. From now on it's going to be solid colors and more neutrals. Yeah, that's not working so well for me-the last 3 items I've purchased are not members of my new fashion resolutions. Ooo, and tomorrow is my birthday! Super excited, I'm going out with friends tonight and tomorrow will be spent with my family. Hopefully I can remember to get some outfit pictures in.
