Selfies and Tie Shirts

Nothing quite like selfies in the fitting room. :) I got this tie shirt at Lane Bryant maybe about a month ago during one of the flash sales so I ended up paying around $20 for it; still available. I'm loving the bright colors, it's also sheer, therefore super light weight. Torrid is currently carrying a few different styles of the tie-waist shirts, they can be found here, here, and here.  Which brings me to my next point of conversation: Torrid's Facebook comments about this style of shirt. I'm not sure why I ever bother reading the comment sections since most of the time they just irritate me, but there was definitely some negativity about this style, specifically on fat women. Torrid featured the tie-waist shirts and asked consumers if they love them or need to leave them. Here are a couple of my "favorite" comments regarding this issue:

"Leave, especially since some big girls tend to wear clothes wrong."
"Love it on girls without bellies, which is almost none of us."
"Cute on models...not so much on real plus size girls who have bellies and side fat."
"They're cute...but you know you're going to get that one girl who thinks they can tie it under their bakers dozen and just ruin it."

Yes, Torrid did ask for people's opinions on this style of shirt, but some people take it way too seriously. First, if you don't like it, then don't buy it. This is just another example of people trying to push their own insecurities off on others. Secondly, Torrid carries HUNDREDS of shirts, there is probably currently approximately 300 shirts in Torrid's fashion top section, that's not counting the clearance, so out off ALL of these they offer, three shirts in a tie-waist variation and that's a problem? Not sure why. Leading back to the first point. Do I always feel 100% great about my body? No. Am I always super confident? No, confidence does tend to waver at times. However, I am not going to let this and other's opinion on what I as a fat woman should and shouldn't wear affect what I wear. The tie-waist top may not be the most flattering piece I've worn, but I still rocked.

And just as a digression, I keep telling myself that I'm not going to buy anymore patterned/printed items because I have a ton. From now on it's going to be solid colors and more neutrals. Yeah, that's not working so well for me-the last 3 items I've purchased are not members of my new fashion resolutions. Ooo, and tomorrow is my birthday! Super excited, I'm going out with friends tonight and tomorrow will be spent with my family. Hopefully I can remember to get some outfit pictures in.

  1. I hate looking at the comments on any plus size shop's Facebook, because I've seen a few UK bloggers I know get torn to shreds. I wish more people wanted to build each other up not tear each other down.

Loving the shirt, and if a woman has the confidence to rock it under her boobs, then good for her - whatever her size! x x

    1. The comments section is actually how I came across blogs in the first place. One store had posted a blog picture of a woman wearing their products and so many people were talking crap and I defended the woman, despite the fact that I didn't particularly like the outfit she was wearing still looked awesome in it. It gets me though, so many people say thing like these models are not plus size, we want more selection, but they are still not satisfied when they get it.

  2. Well, firstly, you look really good. Secondly, because you look so good, I'm going to go ahead and say this...tie shirts are complicated. No, that's a wussy thing to say. *Tie shirts are awful. On any size. They look tattered, tacky. Like a confused piece of clothing that doesn't know if it's fancy or beachwear so it just sucks at being both. *(Rambling opinions of a woman who doesn't dress half as well as you do.)

    1. Um, thanks I guess. lol. I like this particular tie shirt, I wouldn't purchase more of them however. I don't particularly find them to be fancy, well or beach wear either, just casual wear to me. My issue really is more with people and body image. To lump all fat woman into a category and say that they shouldn't wear this or that is just something I find irritating. Don't get me wrong, there are some thing I can't stand; like bubble hems on grown women, I do not like them at all, but I won't tell other people that they shouldn't wear them.

  3. I am not a huge fan of tie-shirts, but it has to do with the style and nothing to do with the person wearing them. I think the top looks great on you, and yes, unfortunately there is just so much negativity out there. Happy early birthday to you!!!

    1. Thanks you. I agree, I don't have a problem with people expressing their dislike because of a style, it's all the other crap that is associated with it.

  4. You have just convinced me that I need a tie-waist shirt in my life. I LOVE this look on you! It's great! Honestly I have always just kind of passed over tie-waist shirts-- but just because you don't like an option doesn't mean it shouldn't be available to other fat chicks! Some people are just so eaten by insecurities that they turn into mean little vultures. Ugh!

  5. Awwww look at you girls shopping together. I look forward to one day shopping with my daughters. Selfies are hard, right? But dressing rooms have better lighting.

  6. Wow I never look at the comments from plus size stores because they make me upset. I think as long as your confident in what your wearing it doesn't matter. I got a tie shirt last year and I think I really think it would look great on anyone. Ugh people and there comments. BTW you look awesome in your tie shirt and I love prints, I'm the opposite of you I own a lot of plain solid clothing and not very much print. I need to buy more prints! hehe Happy Birthday and I hope you have a wonderful one! :)

    1. Thank you! Like I said, I don't know why I look at them, normally it's not really intentional when I do though, lol.

  7. I'm personally very picky about tie shirts. I've learned to love ones that basically qualify as crop-tops because they look great layered over dresses or over the skirts I own and draw attention to my waist like WHAT, but I think you've made this hip-length one work! People are just never much fun most of the time.
And prints for life, man. The more absurd, the better!

    1. I do that with regular button ups rather than buying a tie shirt for those type. Ha ha, love print all day!
